Jupe Jessica bleue / My blue Jessica skirt

La jupe que je montre aujourd’hui est une copie d’une de mes jupes prêt-à-porter préférées. La jupe d’origine étant en laisse plutôt épaisse, elle est condamnée à ne sortir qu’en hiver, ce que je trouve très dommage. J’ai donc essayé d’en tirer un patron pour en faire des copies portables en toute saison.

J’ai appelé cette jupe ma jupe Jessica car l’originale possède une étiquette « Yessica » et je voulais en faire une variation.

The skirt I’m showing today is a copy of one of my favorite RTW skirts. The original skirt is made with a quite thick wool so I can only wear it in cold season and that makes me very sad. So I tried to make a pattern out of it to sew several copies which I could wear all year round.


I called this skirt pattern Jessica because the original one has a label saying “Yessica” and I wanted to do a variation on its name.

La jupe qui m’a servie de modèle a deux défauts (excepté le tissu d’hiver) qui me gênent et que je souhaitais supprimer de ma version : elle est trop serrée à la taille et elle n’a pas de poches. On peut voir sur les photos que le premier défaut est toujours là : je suis un peu boudinée dans ma jupe (le tissu étant plus fin, ça se voit même plus). Je retoucherai le patron pour la prochaine version. Et heureusement, ça se voit beaucoup moins quand je porte mon haut sorti de la jupe et non pas rentré comme sur les photos (c’était pour qu’on voit bien la jupe).

The skirt I wanted to reproduce has two faults (plus the winter fabric thing) that I wanted to remove on my version: it is a bit to tight at the waist and it has no pocket. On the pictures, one can see that the first fault is still here: even if I tried to add width, it is still to tight (and the fabric being lighter, it is even more visible). I will modify my pattern for the next iteration. But I’m happy to say that it is much less visible if I wear my top untucked or if I wear a belt, as I usually wear it.

Les poches sont très largement inspirées de celles de la Crescent Skirt de Sewaholic et j’ai d’ailleurs utilisé son tutoriel pour les coudre. Elles ne sont pas aussi pratiques que j’aurais voulu (l’ouverture est trop verticale ce qui les rend peu profondes) mais elles sont tout de même les bienvenues et je suis assez fière de leur aspect.

The pockets are very much inspired from those of Sewaholic’s Crescent Skirt and I also used her tutorial to sew them. They are not as practical as I wished (the opening is to vertical which makes them quite shallow) but they are still most welcome and I’m quite proud of their look.

Le ruban a été un peu bidouillé pour tenir.

The ribbon was adapted to fit.

L’ourlet est fini avec un ruban de satin. A l’origine, je voulais replier le ruban à l’intérieur pour faire un bel ourlet mais en fait je trouve que ça rend bien de le laisser visible. Même s’il ne faut pas aller voir trop près un des côtés où je me suis rendue compte que mon ruban était juste un poil trop court… Honnêtement, je pense être la seule à voir cette erreur. Mais la prochaine fois, je ferais plus attention à la longueur de mon ruban ! Le ruban plaît apparemment beaucoup aux autres car j’ai reçu des compliments dessus.

The hem is finished with a satin ribbon. I wanted to fold the ribbon inside to make a beautiful hem but I thought it was cute that way. Even if no one should look to closely ont of the sides where I realized I cut my ribbon smaller than what I needed... Honestly, I believe I am the only one to see this mistake but I will be careful to cut enough length next time. This ribbon detail is apparently popular because I received several compliments on it.

La fermeture éclair et la parementure à la taille ont été cousus toujours en suivant le tutorial de Tasia. Je me suis lancée dans la réalisation de ma jupe au même moment que Tasia dans son Sew-Along donc j’en ai largement profité même si le patron n’était pas le même.
Ma fermeture éclair est loin d’être parfaite à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur mais ça ne se voit pas trop alors je vais faire avec. Et elle tient bien et ne se bloque pas, contrairement à la fermeture (pas si) invisible de la jupe originale...

The zipper and facing where sewn using Tasia’s tutorial. In fact, I started sewing this skirt about the time she did her Sew-Along so I was able to use it a lot even if the skirt is different.
My zipper is far from perfect (inside or outside) but it is quite discreet so it will do. And it is much more robust than the (not so) invisible zipper in the original skirt.

Toutes les coutures sont finies au point zigzag. Franchement, l’intérieur n’est pas très joli à voir, mais rien ne partira en lambeaux en passant à la machine, ce qui est le plus important. Et puis je suis la seule à le voir. Néanmoins, je ferais plus d’efforts pour la prochaine version car c’est quand même plus agréable d’avoir un intérieur bien fini.

I finished all my seams with zigzag. Honestly, the inside is not very pretty but it will not unravel in the washing machine which is the most important. And I am the only one to see it, so I’m OK with that. But I will try to finish them differently next time because it’s nice to have a clean finish inside.

En conclusion, cette jupe n’est pas parfaite mais je l’aime beaucoup et elle est très agréable à porter. J’en suis très contente.

To finish this post, I would simply say that even though this skirt is not perfect, I love it anyway and it is very agreeable to wear. I am very happy with it.
